Our Own Space is a $20 million project to develop 350 6th Avenue into an inclusive, state of the art epicenter for Muslim life in Manhattan, centered on the pillars of knowledge (علم), fellowship (صحبة), and service (خدمة).
Our Space
Located at the prime intersection of 6th Avenue and Washington Place, and only a few blocks from the Islamic Center of NYU, 350 6th Avenue is a two story commercial unit offering over 16,000 square feet of usable space. The versatile, open structure will cater to the diverse needs of our community.
With your support, we successfully raised the down payment and executed a purchase agreement on November 20, 2024, alhumdulillah. We plan to close on the building in January 2025, and begin renovation of the space in March 2025, inshallah.
We need to raise approximately $14 million to cover the cost of the building and renovation.
Together, with your support, we can build our own space to serve as an independent, epicenter for Muslim spiritual, intellectual, professional, and social life in Manhattan.
Our Plan
We envision a state of the art, purpose built space that includes:
A large prayer hall to accommodate our growing needs for jummah, Ramadan, Muharram, and other religious services;
A co-working area with a cafe, for productivity and collaboration;
Event facilities enabling daily, weekly and monthly community programming as well as rental availability for community organizations;
A gender-separated wellness center for exercise classes, counseling, group therapy, cupping, massage, and other personal health services;
Classrooms for weekend programming for children;
Offices for administrative staff and community-based organizations to encourage cooperation in providing robust, cohesive services for the Muslim community.
We plan to develop diverse programming and operations, including:
Added programming to focus on youth development, especially for tweens and teens, as well as the elderly;
Expansion of convert care and support;
Programming focused on adults at various life stages i.e. 30 and older, 40 and older, etc.;
Services to address the growing matrimonial needs of our community;
Professional networking opportunities as well as mentorship for students and young professionals;
Enhanced spiritual and religious learning with dedicated teachers and structured curriculum;
Community assistance and social services; and
Collaborations with community-based organizations, civic engagement groups, and other like-minded NGOs.
